[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] Kim Ki-hyun, a member of the People Power Party and a candidate for the next party leadership, said on the 15th, "It is time to reestablish the identity of conservative innovation that upholds the values of freedom and fairness."

On the same day, Kim stated on his Facebook, "To prevent the dark history of the double standards of the Democratic Party regime that has eroded the future of the Republic of Korea, and the history of humiliation and subjugation that trampled on the nation's pride from repeating, we must rise again."

He continued, "Do you remember the roar of one million people gathered at Gwanghwamun Square on October 3, 2019, the day the sky opened? I still cannot forget the excitement of that day, which was the 'Day of National Resistance' for the reconstruction of Korea," and emphasized, "I am convinced that October 3, which set a new milestone for democratic struggle by the people, of the people, and for the people, should be designated as the 'Day of National Resistance' and its significance commemorated."

Kim also said, "To pass on the proud legacy of the Republic of Korea to the future generations who will be the main actors of this country, we must progressively inherit the lineage of Korea's orthodox conservatism and raise the flag of conservative innovation," adding, "I will stand at the forefront with the people resolutely, and I will not be obsessed with personal gain or cowardly hide behind others." This has been interpreted inside and outside the party as a reaffirmation of his intention to challenge for the party leadership.
