Andong Mayor Kwon Ki-chang Attends 77th Liberation Day Ceremony to Honor Patriotic Ancestors Mayor Kwon Ki-jang of Andong City is attending the Liberation Day celebration on the 15th to honor the spirit of the patriots.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] On the 15th, Kwon Ki-chang, mayor of Andong City, attended the 77th Liberation Day celebration held at the Dongnak Hall of Gyeongbuk Provincial Office and honored the noble spirit of patriotic ancestors who devoted themselves to the nation.


The celebration was attended by Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Provincial Council Chairman Bae Han-cheol, Superintendent of Education Lim Jong-sik, Lee Dong-il, head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Liberation Association, as well as heads of local veterans' organizations and families of independence activists.


At the ceremony, government awards were presented to the bereaved families of independence activists who were posthumously honored: the late Kim Myung-si (Patriotic Medal), the late Kim Jong-cheol (Order of Merit for National Foundation), the late Choi Sang-ik (Order of Merit for National Foundation), the late Kim Doo-man (Presidential Citation), the late Park Doo-kwon (Presidential Citation), and the late Jeon Woon-hak (Presidential Citation).


Mayor Kwon Ki-chang of Andong said, “Andong is recognized as the place where the independence movement began earliest in the country, produced the most independence activists, and had the highest number of martyrs. We will strive harder to repay the noble spirit of the patriots who sacrificed their lives for independence and to inspire pride and self-esteem among local residents as a sacred site of the independence movement.”
