Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Conducts Sexual Violence Prevention Training for Senior Officials and Heads of Affiliated Organizations

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will conduct sexual harassment and sexual violence prevention training for high-ranking officials and heads of affiliated organizations on the 16th.

While the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has previously conducted sexual violence prevention training together for general staff and organization heads, it will now open a separate customized program for high-ranking officials in accordance with revised guidelines and conduct small-scale face-to-face training.

The first lecture will be given by Attorney Cheon Jeong-ah (Law Firm Soheon) on the topic of "Laws and Case Analysis Related to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence," covering the roles of organization heads and managers in preventing sexual violence incidents, procedures for handling cases when they occur, and prevention of secondary damage.

The second lecture will be delivered by Professor Lee Na-young from the Department of Sociology at Chung-Ang University, titled "The Post-Colonial Korean Prostitution System," discussing the definition of prostitution, the significance and limitations of the Special Act on Prostitution, the patterns of prostitution in Korea, and practical alternatives at the educational institution level to prevent it.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "To create an equitable educational environment, it is very important to view issues from different perspectives, support the recovery of victims, raise sensitivity to prevent secondary damage when incidents occur, and the efforts of members to reduce democratic decision-making and elements of gender inequality in the workplace." They added, "The heads of organizations and high-ranking officials, who play a leading role in Seoul education, have a significant impact on their organizations, which gives this training its meaning."

Starting with this training, sexual harassment, sexual violence, and prostitution prevention education for school administrators, including officials at the level of section chief or higher, principals, vice principals, and administrative directors, will be conducted under the supervision of direct agencies and 11 education support offices.

Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "Educational sites must be safe spaces free from sexual harassment and sexual violence, and the heads of educational institutions have the duty to create and protect an equitable educational environment." He added, "We will continue to support the creation of schools safe from sexual violence, the active With You policy, and the spread of a gender-equal culture and improvement of organizational culture."
