[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the weekend of the 13th, Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, worked up a sweat volunteering for flood recovery alongside Gwangjin-gu volunteers in Bangbae 2-dong, Seocho-gu.

Gwangjin-gu arrived early in the morning at the flooded sites in Seocho-gu to assist with flood recovery efforts in areas affected by unprecedented heavy rain.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho and 35 Gwangjin-gu volunteers immediately began removing muddy water from six locations including flooded households and businesses, clearing mud and debris from the floors.

Wiping away the sweat streaming down, they rolled up their sleeves all day to help citizens affected by the flood by moving broken and wet furniture and appliances outside and wiping the water-filled floors.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “I sincerely thank the volunteers who took precious time on a rainy weekend to share the pain of disaster victims and demonstrate the spirit of volunteerism. Our district has a dense flood safety network and relatively avoided flood damage, but disasters are crises that do not distinguish regions. We will do our best for rapid recovery through support without boundaries.”

Gwangjin-gu has supported Yeongdeungpo-gu and Seocho-gu with one 2.5-ton dump truck for transporting flood waste, two 2.5-ton compactor trucks, and drivers. On the 10th, Saemaul leaders from Gwangjin-gu also extended helping hands at flood sites in Dongjak-gu, Seoul.

Gwangjin-gu plans to continue close cooperation with other districts to prevent flood damage and support flood recovery in the future.
