[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Se-eun] About six months after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it has been confirmed that the trust level of the Russian people in President Putin exceeds 80%.

According to TASS news agency on the 12th (local time), a public opinion poll conducted by the former Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) showed that trust in President Putin rose by 0.5 percentage points from the previous week to 81.3%.

Positive evaluations of President Putin's job performance stood at 78.3%, which also increased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous week.

In an earlier poll conducted by the same organization in May, President Putin's approval rating reached 81%.

Putin's approval rating, which had remained in the 60% range just before the war, surged to 80% immediately after the war began. Since then, it has consistently stayed in the 70-80% range.

At that time, experts analyzed that amid intensifying sanctions against Russia by the West, including the United States, national unity and internal cohesion centered on President Putin were being achieved.

The survey was conducted from August 1 to 7, targeting 1,600 Russians.

Meanwhile, among the Ukrainian people affected by Russia's invasion, 8 out of 10 believe they will win the war and reclaim the occupied territories.

According to Bloomberg news on the same day, a public opinion poll conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI), a U.S. polling organization, together with Ukraine's Rating Group, found that 64% of Ukrainians expect that when this war ends, Ukraine will recover all internationally recognized territories since its independence in 1991.

This is interpreted as meaning they believe they can even reclaim the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia occupied in 2014.

Fourteen percent of respondents expected to regain the territories under Ukraine's control before the Russian war broke out in February. This includes most areas of Luhansk and Donetsk in the east, Zaporizhzhia in the south, and Kherson province, which are currently occupied by Russia.

Additionally, 91% of Ukrainians positively evaluated President Volodymyr Zelensky's job performance, and 72% expressed support for Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The survey was conducted from June 27 to 28, excluding residents of the Crimean Peninsula, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions currently occupied by Russia from the survey subjects.
