[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Se-eun] Photos of an unidentified flying object (UFO) have been released for the first time in 32 years, drawing significant attention.

According to the British daily newspaper Daily Mail on the 12th (local time), a diamond-shaped flying object was sighted 32 years ago, and photos capturing the scene were recently made public.

According to reports, on August 4, 1990, two chefs at a hotel located in Calvin, Scottish Highlands, were taking a walk near the hotel around 9 p.m. after finishing their shifts. During their walk, they spotted a diamond-shaped object floating in the sky.

A few minutes later, a British Royal Air Force plane approached the unidentified object from behind. At the time, the British Royal Air Force was patrolling 24 hours a day due to concerns about a possible Russian intrusion. The fighter jet circled around the diamond-shaped flying object before disappearing.

The two chefs took a total of six photos of the scene and later reported them to a local Scottish media outlet. The media outlet handed the photos over to the Ministry of Defence but did not report on them separately.

The photos, which were thought to remain classified forever, were revealed to the public 32 years later through retired airman Craig Lindsay. Lindsay stated that the British Ministry of Defence had decided not to release the photos until December 31, 2019. Even after the period expired, the Ministry extended the non-disclosure period until 2076, citing privacy concerns.

The reporter, who had been investigating UFOs for a long time, mentioned that the whereabouts of the chefs who took the photos were also unknown. He added, "Every time I investigated the day the UFO was sighted, it felt like insiders were blocking it." Then, he met Lindsay, who had a copy of the photos.

Lindsay confessed, "I disobeyed orders from superiors to 'block' the photos at the time and secretly hid a copy of the photos." He added, "I was afraid to reveal the secret but waited for someone to contact me for 30 years."

The reporter who met Lindsay explained, "The eyewitness accounts and the photos matched so far," and added, "The structure is clearly different from previously sighted UFOs." He further evaluated, "This is the best UFO photo I have ever seen."

Andrew Robinson, who was commissioned by the reporter to analyze the photos, stated, "The UFO was definitely in front of the camera," and "It is not a fake created through post-processing."

Meanwhile, the first recorded UFO sighting was in 1947 when an American businessman flying a private plane near Mount Rainier in Washington State, USA, witnessed nine unidentified objects flying at high speed. Experts sometimes classify UFOs as physical phenomena occurring in the Earth's atmosphere rather than actual flying objects. As the original name 'Unidentified Flying Object' suggests, their exact identity remains unknown to this day.
