Dongjak-gu Secures 3.9 Billion KRW in Special Adjustment Grants and Special Subsidies to Overcome Heavy Rain Damage President Yoon Suk-yeol and Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, are visiting the collapsed retaining wall site of Geukdong Apartment in Sadang-dong.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is putting all its efforts into recovering from the damage caused by the record-breaking heavy rain on the 8th and is also making an all-out effort to secure funding.

On the 9th, Mayor Park Il-ha requested Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who visited the Dongjak Station heavy rain site, for government-level personnel support for rapid flood recovery in the area. As a result, about 1,600 military personnel have been deployed to ensure thorough restoration of the damage sites.

Mayor Park also visited the collapsed retaining wall site at Geukdong Apartment in Sadang-dong and requested President Yoon Seok-yeol to designate Dongjak-gu as a “special disaster area.” President Yoon gave special instructions for generous support for the demolition of the retaining wall based on safety inspections and for the detailed safety diagnosis.

Accordingly, the district secured 3 billion KRW from the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s special adjustment grant on the 10th, followed by an additional 900 million KRW from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s special disaster grant. The secured funds will be promptly used for restoration costs and other expenses.

Starting from the 12th, the district will accept damage reports from residents and small business owners affected by flooding, and after a thorough survey and confirmation, will first provide support payments of 2 million KRW as stipulated by law.

Eligible applicants are actual residents and small business owners who suffered flood damage, and applications can be submitted at the local community service center of their address.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “In addition to the 3.9 billion KRW secured this time, we will continuously consult with the central government and Seoul Metropolitan Government to secure additional funds. We will mobilize all available resources, including the district’s budget, to fully compensate and restore the damage.”
