[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Health and Environment Research Institute issued an additional ozone advisory for the northeastern area of Seoul at 5 p.m. on the 12th.

As of 5 p.m., an ozone advisory has been issued for the entire city of Seoul, including the northeastern area. At 4 p.m., ozone advisories were issued for the downtown, northwestern, and southeastern areas of Seoul, and the southwestern area has maintained an ozone advisory since 3 p.m.

Seoul issues an advisory when the one-hour average ozone concentration in the autonomous districts within the respective area reaches 0.120 ppm or higher.

As of 5 p.m. on this day, the one-hour average ozone concentration in Seongdong-gu was 0.138 ppm.

Ozone is a secondary pollutant generated when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the atmosphere react photochemically with solar energy. High concentrations of ozone can irritate the respiratory tract and mucous membranes, causing inflammation and potentially leading to lung diseases.
