Sacheon City Council Holds Capacity Building Seminar This Year

Expert Invitation Seminar for a Studying Parliament and a Researching Parliament

Members of Sacheon City Council are participating in a special seminar to enhance their capabilities.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Sacheon City Council in Gyeongnam held the "2022 Sacheon City Council Members Capacity Building Special Seminar" for two days from the 10th to the 11th to support efficient council operations and legislative activities.

Unlike other local governments embroiled in controversies over overseas trips, this special seminar was held at the KB Ingenium Sacheon Training Center, an educational facility within the jurisdiction, with about 30 participants including council members and council secretariat staff.

Experts related to the council, Professors Choi Chang-soo and Park Yong-jin from the Department of Local Government and Autonomy Administration at Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, were invited to give lectures on legislative activity strategies and auditing techniques for administrative affairs audits.

Lectures focusing on writing press releases for promoting legislative activities and procedures and methods for enacting and amending local legislation were also provided.

Beyond simple theoretical lectures, practical exercises on actual cases, Q&A sessions, and subgroup discussions by committees were conducted to explore immediately applicable measures, and time was also set aside to share legislative experiences and secrets among council members with two or more terms.

This seminar was held not only to acquire specialized knowledge for legislative activities such as administrative affairs audits but also to share experiences and knowledge among members to realize a productive council.

Chairman Yoon Hyung-geun said, “To deal with public officials from the executive branch who have worked in public service for over 20 years, it is necessary to gather citizens' opinions on current issues and continuously study at the same time. Only then can we check the executive branch and propose proper alternatives.”

The 9th Sacheon City Council, launched in July, is conducting legislative activities with the mindset that the 120,000 citizens of Sacheon are the owners of the council, aiming for a "New Start, Happy City Sacheon."
