The Gyeongnam Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea announced the cancellation on the 12th via a written statement, saying, "It is most important to focus all efforts on restoring the damage caused by the heavy rains concentrated in the metropolitan and central regions."

Kim Jeong-ho, the provincial party chairman, said, "We extend our deepest condolences to everyone suffering from the record-breaking heavy rain and flood damage," and added, "We will do our best to overcome the damage quickly."

The event organizers stated, "Apart from the cancellation of the commemorative event, we will continue to respond until the verbal abuse and loud protests occurring in Pyeongsan Village are resolved."
