[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The external power supply device of the nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, which was damaged by shelling, was restored after 6 days.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated on the 10th (local time) in a statement signed by Director General Rafael Grossi, "We received a report that the power line supplying external power, which was damaged by shelling on the 5th, has been restored," adding, "This is a positive development."
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, with six reactors. It was shelled for two consecutive days on the 5th and 6th, destroying the power lines connecting the external power grid and the plant. Part of the spent nuclear fuel storage facility building was also damaged. Russia and Ukraine are blaming each other for the responsibility of the shelling. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is currently occupied by Russia.
Meanwhile, Director General Grossi will attend the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on the 11th to brief on the safety situation of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
