[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] Silla University and Busan Metropolitan Citizen Library have signed a business agreement to present educational and cultural visions based on digital new technologies and to enhance library services. The signing ceremony took place at 11 a.m. on the 11th in the Silla University President's Reception Room.
The event was attended by key figures from both institutions, including Silla University President Kim Choongseok, Library Director Jung Woncheol, and Busan Metropolitan Citizen Library Director Cheon Jeongsook.
Through this business agreement, the two institutions agreed to cooperate on ▲linking and jointly utilizing knowledge information resources ▲improving the education and cultural level of Busan residents ▲creating a high-quality library service environment ▲nurturing outstanding local talents ▲joint development of digital competency enhancement programs and educational content ▲research for developing library services based on 4th Industrial Revolution technologies ▲exchanges such as volunteering, field training, and internships ▲joint hosting of academic conferences and seminars and information exchange.
Busan Metropolitan Citizen Library, established in 1901 as the Hongdohoe Busan Branch, is a representative library of the Busan region with a history of 120 years.
The library has performed the function of promoting citizen reading habits based on approximately 940,000 volumes of books, supporting reading information services using customized knowledge information and big data, and operating lifelong learning and programs.
Taking this agreement as an opportunity, Silla University plans to strengthen the nurturing of future talents who will lead the knowledge information society and expand the industry-academia-research cooperation support system to lead the improvement of education and cultural levels for the development of the Busan region.
Professor Cha Seongjong of the Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University said, “We hope that Silla University will become an innovative cooperation model that proactively responds to the digital transformation in the library field by jointly utilizing various knowledge information resources with Busan Metropolitan Citizen Library to improve the quality of university education.”
The Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University was the first department majoring in library and information science among universities located in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) area.
Based on over 40 years of history and tradition, the department has trained librarians and librarian teachers working in libraries, information centers, and elementary, middle, and high schools.
In the 2021 academic year elementary and secondary librarian teacher certification exam, the department produced 10 successful candidates, ranking first in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region in terms of the number of successful candidates.
