[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Kim Ki-chun, former Chief Presidential Secretary who was convicted up to the second trial for allegedly falsifying the time and method of reporting to the president at the time of the Sewol ferry sinking accident, will receive the final verdict at the Supreme Court on the 19th.


According to the legal community on the 10th, the Supreme Court's 3rd Division (Presiding Justice Ahn Cheol-sang) will deliver the verdict on the appeal trial of former Chief Secretary Kim and former National Security Office Chiefs Kim Jang-soo and Kim Kwan-jin, who were indicted for falsifying official documents, on the 19th. It has been over two years since the second trial verdict was announced.


Former Chief Secretary Kim Ki-chun and former Chief Kim Jang-soo are accused of submitting to the National Assembly false records regarding the time when then-President Park Geun-hye received situation reports on the day of the Sewol ferry disaster. Former Chief Kim Kwan-jin was prosecuted for unlawfully altering the presidential directive (Basic Guidelines for National Crisis Management) that stated the Blue House as the national crisis management control tower without following proper procedures, an offense of damaging official documents.


Former Chief Secretary Kim Ki-chun was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation in both the first and second trials. Former Chiefs Kim Jang-soo and Kim Kwan-jin were acquitted.
