Doosan Construction Designated as Disaster Prevention New Technology with 'Pipe Support Technology'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Doosan Construction announced on the 10th that, in collaboration with MakeSoon and Lotte Construction, it has newly been designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as a disaster prevention new technology (No. 2022-28) for the 'Pipe Support Technology Using Four-Directional Braces to Prevent Vertical and Horizontal Pipe Shaking.'

This technology is designed to prevent pipe damage caused by horizontal seismic loads generated by seismic waves from the epicenter during an earthquake, applied to fire-fighting and general piping systems.

Existing technologies, to protect piping systems from earthquakes, follow current regulations such as the 'Seismic Design Standards for Fire-Fighting Facilities,' which require installing longitudinal or transverse braces at certain intervals in each influence zone. As a result, the installation positions of longitudinal and transverse braces may differ. While longitudinal braces pose no issues, transverse braces can generate rotational forces causing additional moments. However, this technology reduces the moments generated depending on the installation position, making it safer.

Additionally, the four-directional braces for vertical and horizontal pipes fix and support the structure with one set of braces in four directions, instead of the conventional method of installing two braces for support.

While most seismic technologies are based on foreign technologies and regulations applied domestically, this technology is differentiated with efficiency and safety, enabling export overseas.

In the future, this technology can be applied to fire-fighting and mechanical equipment non-structural elements such as ultra-high-rise buildings, apartment complexes, and underground parking lots of general buildings.

A Doosan Construction official stated, "With this disaster prevention new technology designation, we maintain a perfect PQ (Project Qualification) score and secure a number of new technologies comparable to top-tier companies in the new technology field, while promoting technology development in various fields including future technologies."
