[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education has finalized and announced ethical principles related to artificial intelligence (AI) in the education sector.
On the 10th, the Ministry of Education created the "Ethical Principles for Artificial Intelligence in Education," which developers and education stakeholders must jointly adhere to, to ensure AI in education is developed and utilized ethically.
These principles were prepared following a draft announcement in January, public hearings, expert meetings, and international consultations, and include principles and action tasks that the education sector and related industries must comply with.
Based on the overarching principle of "AI that supports human growth," this is the first time guidelines for the development and use of AI in education have been presented.
The ten detailed principles include that AI in education should draw out human growth potential, guarantee learner autonomy and diversity, and respect the expertise of educators.
The principles also cover maintaining solid relationships among education stakeholders, ensuring equal opportunity and fairness in education, strengthening solidarity and cooperation within the educational community, contributing to social public interest, ensuring the safety of education stakeholders, transparency in data processing, and privacy protection.
The Ministry of Education plans to utilize these ethical principles in AI ethics education and teacher competency enhancement training materials. They will also be used as collaboration guidelines with Edutech companies.
