Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Publish 4th Issue of New School Violence Alert System School Bell

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 10th that it has published the 4th issue of 'School-Bell,' operated in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to prevent youth crimes such as school violence.

School-Bell is a system that shares new types of school violence information reported to the police and the education office with students and parents. The dissemination targets include 1,407 schools, 830,000 students, and 1.5 million parents, and it was first published in November 2011. Currently, real-time reporting is possible through the Kakao Channel, with about 3,700 subscribers.

The recently published School-Bell was created by selecting crimes targeting youth in daily life, such as cybercrime and secondhand trading, the police explained. Major selected cases include ▲ extortion and theft disguised as secondhand trading ▲ purchasing alcohol and cigarettes on behalf of youth and seeking compensation ▲ forcing youth to sign up for sports Toto apps to steal personal information, among others.

School-Bell includes not only the applicable laws for these cases but also important precautions that students and parents must observe. Kim Kwang-ho, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, said, "With the recent development of SNS and the use of new platforms, crime trends are rapidly changing," adding, "For thorough prevention, it is necessary for students, parents, and the general public to recognize and respond to new crimes in advance."
