[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Taemin] POSCO Engineering & Construction announced on the 10th that it will jointly host the "4th Marine Pollution Prevention Content Contest" with the Korea Coast Guard and Inha University Gyeonggi·Incheon Sea Grant Center.
The theme of this contest is "Our Clean Sea from Marine Pollution" and "Marine Environment Conservation and Blue Carbon* Protection." Blue carbon refers to the carbon absorbed by marine ecosystems such as tidal flats, shellfish, halophytes, and eelgrass. Submissions can include content that builds consensus for marine environment conservation, such as ▲protecting blue carbon resources like tidal flats from pollution caused by marine debris and oil ▲reducing marine debris such as discarded fishing gear and plastics ▲preventing pollutant leakage accidents from ships and marine facilities ▲practical tasks or related experiences in daily life to reduce marine debris.
This year's contest will be held in two categories: poster and promotional video (UCC). POSCO Engineering & Construction signed a business agreement with the Korea Coast Guard in 2020 for marine environment conservation and has been making efforts to prevent marine pollution by holding an annual marine pollution prevention poster contest.
Submitted works will be reviewed by experts in November, and a total of 49 final works in two categories will be selected and awarded. Prizes totaling 6.6 million KRW will be given, including 3 million KRW for the grand prize. The selected outstanding works will be used for public awareness improvement activities such as marine pollution prevention and blue carbon protection. Last year, 310 works were submitted, and 23 outstanding works were awarded.
A POSCO Engineering & Construction official said, "We hope the public will take an interest in marine pollution and participate in creating clean seas," adding, "We will actively carry out social contribution activities in the ESG field to fulfill our role as a corporate citizen."
