SPC Samlip Achieves Record Q2 Performance... "Rest Area and B2B Distribution Growth Stand Out" (Comprehensive)

SPC Samlip Achieves Record Q2 Performance... "Rest Area and B2B Distribution Growth Stand Out" (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] SPC Samlip announced on the 10th that it surpassed 800 billion KRW in sales for the first time in the second quarter, thanks to balanced growth across all business sectors including Pokemon Bread, rest areas, and exports.

SPC Samlip's second-quarter sales reached 814.9 billion KRW, and operating profit was 23.5 billion KRW, increasing by 14% and 61.5% respectively compared to the same period last year.

While the core bakery and food business sectors continued steady growth, the rest area business and B2B food ingredient distribution business recovered due to the easing of social distancing measures, driving overall growth.

In particular, the rest area business succeeded in turning a profit and sales increased by 5% compared to the same period last year. The largest rest area, Gapyeong Rest Area, recorded significant growth with sales in the first half of the year increasing by about 30% compared to the first half of last year.

Sales in the distribution sector also reached a record quarterly high of 477.2 billion KRW, and profitability greatly improved through logistics system efficiency and expansion of e-commerce channel businesses such as the online distribution platform ‘Bakingmon (Sangnok Welga)’.

Bakery and food sales increased by 27% and 17% respectively compared to the same period last year, recording 204 billion KRW and 200.7 billion KRW.

Various new products such as Pokemon Bread and Bredique led the bakery performance. Especially, Pokemon Bread, launched last February with the concept of ‘nostalgia recall,’ was re-released and actively promoted through various marketing activities, achieving sales of 70 million packs to date.

In the food sector, representative brands such as Citideli, Pig in the Garden, and Haimeun led sales by introducing various HMR (Home Meal Replacement) products.

The export business also showed growth. Second-quarter sales grew about 30% compared to the same period last year, and sales in the largest export country, the United States, increased by up to 60%. SPC Samlip plans to actively nurture representative export brands such as Samlip Hobang, Yakgwa, and Haimeun and expand the number of countries it enters.

An SPC Samlip official said, “Based on steady bakery and food performance, sales and profitability in the distribution business also grew together, resulting in strong performance,” adding, “In the second half of the year, the performance of the rest area and food ingredient distribution businesses is expected to become more visible.”
