Offline Events After 3 Years... Sequentially Held in Sydney, Auckland, and Melbourne
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced on the 10th that it will hold the '2022 Oceania Job Fair' in Australia and New Zealand until September. This is an integrated employment support event for the Oceania region jointly hosted by KOTRA, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Zealand, and the Korean Consulate in Melbourne.
KOTRA will hold this year's event offline for the first time in three years since 2019. Starting on the 10th in Sydney, Australia, the event will be held sequentially in Auckland, New Zealand on September 8, and in Melbourne, Australia on September 15. In 2020 and 2021, the events were held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This year's event aims to respond to the deepening labor shortage across Oceania. With unemployment rates in Australia and New Zealand recorded at 3.5% and 3.2% respectively, showing the worst labor shortage since 1986, KOTRA explained that it will focus on effectively connecting job seekers and employers.
In Sydney, Australia, job interviews between job seekers and recruiting companies will be conducted throughout the day. In Melbourne, the possibility of employment for job seekers will be increased by pre-matching mentors and mentees by industry. In New Zealand, in addition to holding an offline event in Auckland, an online event will be additionally held targeting the entire North and South Islands of New Zealand.
KOTRA announced that 30 recruiting companies have completed their applications in Sydney. Melbourne will have 25 companies participating, and 20 companies will participate in New Zealand. Approximately 400 job seekers are expected to visit during the event period.
Lee Jongseop, Head of KOTRA's Southeast Asia and Oceania Division, said, "We prepared the event focusing on resolving the Korean labor shortage that has deepened due to border closures," and added, "As the trend of expanding quality jobs continues, we ask for the interest of young people hoping to work in the Oceania region."
