Hwasun-gun to Host 'Maenghwan Geumbae Liberation Day Marathon' on the 13th

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 9th that it will hold the "2022 Maeng Hwan-geum Cup Liberation Day Commemorative Marathon" at Hwasun Public Stadium on the 13th.

This is the first marathon in Hwasun named after an individual, and the event has grown in scale with the participation of athlete Lee Bong-ju, who has a close relationship with the organizers.

The event will be held on three courses: a 3 km family walk and run along the Metasequoia Road connecting Hwasun Public Stadium to Neungju, and 5 km and 10 km runs.

A team competition featuring mixed-gender teams of five running 10 km is also prepared, adding fresh excitement.

Trophies and prize money of 100,000 KRW, 70,000 KRW, and 50,000 KRW will be awarded to the 1st to 3rd place winners in the 5 km male and female categories, and trophies and prize money of 200,000 KRW, 150,000 KRW, and 100,000 KRW will be awarded to the 1st to 3rd place winners in the 10 km male and female categories.

Maeng Hwan-geum, Vice President of the Jeonnam Athletics Federation, said, "I organized this event at my own expense to promote the beautiful summer scenery of Hwasun and to reflect on the significance of Liberation Day. I hope this small effort will contribute to the development of athletics in my hometown, Hwasun."

A county official said, "It is very encouraging as a resident of Hwasun and as a member of the local sports community that a marathon named after an individual is being held. We will continue to strive to support various sports activities in the county, which dreams of becoming a sports mecca."
