[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 9th, the People Power Party held the 3rd National Committee meeting and passed a party constitution amendment allowing the acting party leader to appoint an emergency response committee chairperson.

Seo Byung-soo, chairman of the People Power Party National Committee, announced at the National Assembly main building, "Out of 707 national committee members, 509 participated in the vote, constituting a quorum, and with 457 in favor and 52 against, the party constitution amendment was passed as originally proposed."

The vote was conducted via ARS, and no separate yes/no vote was held.

Kwon Seong-dong, acting party leader, is known to have held a video meeting with lawmakers at 2 p.m. on the same day to officially announce 5-term lawmaker Joo Ho-young as the emergency response committee chairperson, followed by seeking approval from the lawmakers.

Subsequently, the National Committee is scheduled to resume the meeting from 3:30 p.m. and conduct a vote on the appointment of the emergency response committee chairperson via ARS voting.

The 'Joo Ho-young Emergency Committee' is expected to complete the appointment of emergency committee members and launch as early as this week. The appointment agenda for emergency committee members must be passed at the Standing National Committee, but it is predicted that the ruling party, People Power Party, will not prolong the leadership vacancy situation.

As a result of this decision, Lee Jun-seok will be automatically dismissed from the party leader position.
