[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has formed a task force to respond to power accidents caused by heavy rain in the Seoul metropolitan area and has begun assessing the damage situation.

On the 9th, the Ministry announced that it urgently formed the "Energy Safety Task Force," led by Vice Minister Iljun Park, to promote damage assessment and recovery support due to the heavy rain in the metropolitan area, and held the first meeting at 8 a.m.

The heavy rain, which poured mainly in the central regions including the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province on the morning of the previous day, concentrated from the afternoon in southern Seoul, southern Gyeonggi, and Incheon areas, causing electric shock accidents and power outages due to flooding.

The Energy Safety Task Force, centered on the Power Innovation Policy Officer, includes related organizations such as Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and Korea Gas Safety Corporation, focusing on securing electrical safety and recovery response.

The task force will immediately conduct emergency safety inspections to prepare for safety accident concerns such as electric shocks caused by power facilities, including electric vehicle charging stations, mainly in the flooded areas of the metropolitan area. It will also inspect the damage status of major energy facilities such as petroleum and gas facilities, renewable energy facilities including solar power, and hydrogen charging stations, and take necessary measures.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "We will establish a situation management system including maintaining a 24-hour emergency response system," and added, "We plan to strengthen real-time safety situation monitoring and inspection activities."
