Arrest Made 5 Months After Incident
Tracking Accomplice Imitating Daughter's Voice
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A Joseonjok voice phishing collector who threatened to kidnap and sexually assault a daughter to extort money has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the morning of the 8th, the Seoul Guro Police Station announced that Mr. A, who was arrested on fraud charges, was sent to the prosecution in custody. The police are also pursuing accomplices who threatened the victim along with Mr. A.
On March 23, Mr. A and others called Ms. B, a woman in her 50s and the victim, saying, "We have kidnapped and sexually assaulted your daughter and are holding her," and threatened, "If you do not bring cash, we will mutilate specific parts of the body." Believing this, Ms. B met Mr. A near Onsu Station in Guro-gu and handed over 6.5 million won, according to the investigation.
At that time, Mr. A’s accomplice also called the victim via an international phone call, impersonating the victim’s daughter and falsely claiming, "I was sexually assaulted." It was revealed that Mr. A did not actually kidnap or sexually assault the victim’s daughter.
Mr. A, a Chinese national, was staying illegally, and the police arrested him on the 2nd, five months after the incident occurred. It is known that tracking Mr. A’s accomplice has taken time because they communicated with the victim via international phone calls.
