[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] An active-duty police officer was caught after crashing into a taxi while driving under the influence.

On the 8th, according to a comprehensive report by Asia Economy, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul is investigating Sergeant A, affiliated with the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul, on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving and refusal to take a breathalyzer test).

Sergeant A is accused of crashing into a taxi while driving under the influence near Sangwangsimni Station in Seongdong-gu around 2 a.m. on the 6th.

Police who responded to a witness report smelled alcohol and suspected drunk driving, requesting a breathalyzer test, but Sergeant A reportedly refused to take the test.

Refusing a breathalyzer test to avoid punishment for drunk driving is punishable by imprisonment for one to five years or a fine ranging from 5 million to 20 million won.

Meanwhile, the police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of Sergeant A's drunk driving and related incidents.
