[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, announced the review and processing results of residents' suggestions from the neighborhood work report meetings held from July 11 to July 20, following the start of the 8th term of the elected administration.
The decision to hold neighborhood work report meetings as the first step of the 8th term reflected Mayor Lee's strong commitment to practicing a field-centered district administration philosophy and actively incorporating diverse residents' opinions into district governance.
A total of 194 suggestions were proposed through this neighborhood work report meeting tour, categorized by field as follows: ▲Education and Culture (15 cases) ▲Economic Safety (10 cases) ▲Health and Welfare (21 cases) ▲Urban Housing (34 cases) ▲Road and Traffic (43 cases) ▲Cleaning and Environment (22 cases) ▲Civil Engineering and Sewage (4 cases) ▲Parks and Greenery (31 cases) ▲Others (14 cases).
Mayor Lee requested the relevant departments to actively review and reflect on the suggestions. As a result, 176 cases, accounting for 90.7%, were reflected, with positive processing outcomes through long-term review and consultations with related institutions.
Among the suggestions, 18 cases (9.3%) were difficult for the district to pursue due to conflicts of interest among residents or legal restrictions. The department officials provided detailed explanations by phone to the residents who submitted these opinions regarding the reasons for processing difficulties.
The residents' opinions conveyed during this work report meeting were diverse. A resident of Sinwol 3-dong requested the installation of chairs where elderly people could rest while passing by. After on-site verification, the district installed benches with backrests in the relevant section. Additional installations will be planned by reviewing park usage routes and radii in the future.
Regarding the request for facility inspections of the Senior Citizens' Love Room, a full survey of 46 district-run Senior Citizens' Love Rooms was conducted. Maintenance work needed for facilities will be completed by the end of August, reflecting the opinions of the elderly users.
The district also actively reflected the request to replace the sand in front of the net shelter in Paris Park. On July 21, the sand was immediately replaced with fine and soft particles, ensuring children can play safely, and the measure was completed.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, stated, “We will frequently check the progress of projects reflecting residents' opinions and continuously improve any shortcomings. We will continue to communicate directly on-site and work hard to turn residents' wishes into reality and trust into regional development.”
