[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] As the resurgence of COVID-19 continues, more than 100,000 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide by 9 p.m. on the 6th.
According to Seoul and other local governments, from midnight to 9 p.m. on this day, 101,561 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This marks the sixth consecutive day with over 100,000 cases in the interim tally. However, this is 6,246 fewer than the tally at the same time the previous day (107,807). Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced on the 7th is expected to increase further, possibly reaching the mid-100,000s.
As of 9 p.m. on this day, the number of confirmed cases was 1.45 times that of the same time one week ago on the 30th of last month (70,191), an increase of 31,370 cases. Compared to two weeks ago on the 23rd of last month (63,282), it increased by 38,279 cases, reaching 1.60 times. The 'doubling' phenomenon, where the number of new confirmed cases doubles weekly, has slowed down. However, the weekly multiplier of new confirmed cases has gradually increased from 1.13 times on the 1st, 1.18 times on the 2nd, 1.22 times on the 3rd, 1.30 times on the 4th, 1.37 times on the 5th, to 1.45 times on the 6th.
As of 9 p.m. on this day, 47,617 new cases (46.89%) were reported in the metropolitan area, and 53,944 new cases (53.11%) were reported in non-metropolitan areas, with non-metropolitan areas accounting for more than half. By region, the numbers were: Gyeonggi 26,115, Seoul 18,366, Gyeongnam 6,738, Gyeongbuk 5,895, Incheon 5,593, Jeonbuk 4,482, Daegu 4,422, Chungnam 3,753, Chungbuk 3,656, Busan 3,584, Daejeon 3,452, Gangwon 3,433, Gwangju 3,400, Ulsan 3,136, Jeonnam 2,861, Jeju 1,812, and Sejong 863.
