Former Floor Leader Na Kyung-won’s Special Lecture on ‘Carbon Neutrality and the Future of the Republic of Korea’

Seoul City Council People Power Party Representative Choi Ho-jeong to Host Special Lecture by Former Floor Leader Na Kyung-won on the 5th

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] On the 5th, the People Power Party of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Representative Choi Hojung, Seocho 4) invited former floor leader Na Kyung-won to hold the '2nd Invitation Special Lecture' at the 2nd Conference Room of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Members' Hall.

The special lecture was hosted by Senior Deputy Representative Kim Gil-young, beginning with congratulatory remarks from Chairman Kim Hyun-ki, followed by a lecture from former floor leader Na Kyung-won and a Q&A and discussion session with attending council members.

On this day, former floor leader Na Kyung-won spoke on the theme of 'Carbon Neutrality and the Future of the Republic of Korea,' sharing her reflections on the Davos Forum, which she attended as a special envoy of the Yoon administration, and addressing global issues such as climate change as well as various current issues facing the People Power Party.

Na introduced the main agendas of this year's Davos Forum as 'economic security, pandemic, climate change, and carbon neutrality,' stating, “In particular, international interest in responding to climate change and moving toward a carbon-neutral society has already become an irreversible trend. Our companies must promptly participate and collaborate in establishing international standards.” She urged Seoul council members to take a keen interest in these future-oriented topics.

Additionally, former floor leader Na commented on the current situation faced by the People Power Party and the government, saying, “The party, government, and presidential office should operate as a trinity, but it seems like a 'poorly coordinated three-legged race' where each is running in different directions.” She expressed regret over the declining approval ratings and weakening national governance momentum, which have hindered various reforms.

About 60 members of the People Power Party in the Seoul Metropolitan Council, including Representative Choi Hojung, attended the special lecture.

Representative Choi Hojung stated regarding the arrangement of the special lecture following National Assembly member Ahn Cheol-soo’s lecture, “We are promoting invitation special lectures as opportunities to listen to and engage with future-oriented visions presented by key senior figures leading the party.”

Representative Choi added, “I believe that the People Power Party members of the Seoul Metropolitan Council can play a meaningful role in regaining the trust of the public, who have been disappointed by the declining support for the party and the stalled National Assembly. We will take the lead in communicating with the party headquarters and devising ways for the People Power Party to overcome the crisis through more opportunities.”
