[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] The People Power Party's National Committee decided to conduct the vote on the party constitution amendment on the 9th via ARS (Automated Response System), prompting immediate opposition from Lee Jun-seok, the party leader.

On the 5th, Seo Byung-soo, a member of the People Power Party and chairman of the Standing National Committee and National Committee, told reporters after the Standing National Committee meeting that “the voting method for the agenda submitted to the National Committee will be conducted via ARS,” adding, “Since the National Committee has 1,000 members and COVID-19 cases are spreading, and the National Committee is only asked to approve or disapprove the agenda raised by the Standing National Committee, there is no discussion process.”

In response, Lee Jun-seok posted on his Facebook, “Are they now too lazy to convene a majority and make a majority decision by coordinating people’s schedules, so they want to launch the Emergency Response Committee through an ARS National Committee?” He questioned, “There is no gathering ban due to COVID-19, so why do we need an ARS National Committee? They gather dozens or hundreds of people in the National Assembly for study meetings, but why must the National Committee be done via ARS?”

On the same day, the People Power Party’s Standing National Committee defined the current party situation as an “emergency” and decided to finalize the amendment to the party constitution at the National Committee meeting on the 9th, expanding the authority to appoint the Emergency Response Committee chairperson to the 'acting party leader.'
