"If the Sea Were Land" ... Gyeongju Expo, 2nd Anniversary Memorial Performance for Late Lyricist Jeong Gwimun

An Opportunity to Reflect on the Deceased's Achievements and Local Culture and Arts

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] The 2nd anniversary memorial concert for the late lyricist Jeong Gwimun, a representative patriotic artist from the Gyeongju area, will be held on the 6th at 4:30 PM at the Gyeongju Expo Park Cultural Center.

This memorial concert was planned to provide an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the late lyricist, a representative figure from the Gyeongju region, and the local cultural arts.

At the opening ceremony, a memorial video featuring the late Jeong Gwimun’s farewell messages to fans and younger generations in the popular arts community, as well as footage of him during his lifetime, will be presented once again to honor his memory.

On this day, Jang Boyun, a trot singer from Gyeongju, will perform representative works with lyrics written by the late lyricist, including Baeho’s “Last Leaf,” Jomimi’s “If the Sea Were Land,” and Kim Yeonja’s “Far Future,” concluding the memorial event.

Gyeongju Expo Park has continued to hold memorial concerts since the connection made with the late lyricist during the “2019 Gyeongju World Culture Expo.”

The late Jeong Gwimun, a master of Korean popular music born in Gyeongju, was born in 1942 in Hyeongok-myeon, Gyeongju City. He debuted as a lyricist in 1967 by winning with the song “Late Autumn” in a new work contest held by Segwang Publishing.

He was a patriotic artist who devoted himself to his hometown Gyeongju for 50 years, leaving behind over 1,000 works with lyrical and beautiful lyrics.

Ryu Heerim, CEO of Gyeongju Expo Park, said, “Jeong Gwimun was a master of Korean popular music born in Gyeongju who made a significant mark in the history of Korean popular music. We hope many citizens of Gyeongju will join this memorial concert.”
