Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone, Chairman Appointed at Association Meeting

Appointment of Choi Byung-yong, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, as Chairman of the 12th Union Council, etc.

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Song Sang-rak, hereinafter Gwangyang Economic Authority) announced that it held the 129th temporary meeting of the union council on August 2.

The meeting proceeded with the appointment of the new chairman and vice chairman of the union council and a report on the progress of major tasks. Choi Byung-yong (a Jeonnam provincial assembly member from Yeosu) was appointed as the new chairman of the union council, and Kim Gu-yeon (a Gyeongnam provincial assembly member from Hadong) was appointed as the vice chairman.

In his greeting, the new chairman Choi Byung-yong said, “I am grateful for the support from the committee members, and I promise to devote myself to activities for the development of the Gwangyang Bay Area.”

He also said, “Although the business promotion is not easy due to concerns about economic recession caused by various adverse factors, let all union members and authority staff unite to make Gwangyang Bay Area a leading investment hub for the future.”

Vice Chairman Kim Gu-yeon urged efforts to make the Hadong district-related projects visible through cooperation with local governments, and at the same time, requested timely securing of personnel to prevent any disruption in work due to vacancies within the authority.

Committee member Han Sook-kyung (a Jeonnam provincial assembly member from Suncheon) asked to create an environment where young people can settle in the region by attracting future new growth companies and creating quality jobs.

Commissioner Song Sang-rak said, “Through communication and cooperation with the committee members, we will ensure that the major tasks reported today proceed without any setbacks.”
