Seoul City Expands Child Meal Card Usage... Usable at Emart Food Court from August

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Starting in August, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has expanded the usage of the Child Meal Card (Kkum Namu Card) to be accepted at Emart food courts. This follows last April's full expansion of the card's usage to general restaurants (Shinhan Card-affiliated stores located in Seoul).

On the 2nd, Seoul announced that to diversify the affiliated stores accepting the Child Meal Card, it has been promoting affiliation with large mart food courts together with Shinhan Card since last year. Thanks to Emart's active cooperation, the Child Meal Card can now be used at food courts in 30 Emart branches within Seoul.

It is expected that the 16,987 children using the Kkum Namu Card will be able to choose from a variety of menus at Emart food courts according to their preferences and order via kiosks, which will help alleviate the stigma and inconvenience caused by face-to-face ordering. Additionally, it is anticipated that this will also contribute to increasing the income of small business owners operating within the food courts.

Meanwhile, Seoul, together with Shinhan Card and GS Retail, has established the nation's first ‘Kkum Namu Card Online Payment System,’ enabling children using the card to purchase high-quality convenience store food online at a 20% discount and pick it up at their preferred convenience store at their desired time.

Lim Ji-hoon, Seoul's Family Officer, stated, “We will continue to make multifaceted efforts to support the healthy growth and development of socially vulnerable children at risk of food insecurity.”
