[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will conduct the 2022 Jungnang-gu Resident Participatory Budget Resident Voting through M-Voting from August 1 to 15.
The resident participatory budget system is a project where residents propose necessary projects for the region and participate in budget allocation. By directly involving residents in administration, it enhances the transparency and democracy of the district budget.
Voting can be done via the M-Voting application or website, where residents select 5 projects out of a total of 39 projects consisting of 6 in the resident life sector and 33 in the urban construction sector. The finally selected projects will be budgeted and implemented with a scale of 1.1 billion KRW in 2023.
Among the projects up for voting this time are policies that residents practically need, such as the installation of school zone signposts and the creation of green parks in the city center.
Among the 29 projects finally selected last year, 7 projects including 'Installation of crosswalk floor traffic lights' and 'Environmental improvement in Myeonmok 5-dong' have been completed so far.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "In the resident participatory budget system operated every year, we will actively collect diverse and creative opinions proposed by residents to promote regional development and solve inconveniences in daily life," and added, "We ask for much interest and participation so that residents' opinions can be actively reflected in next year's budget allocation."
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will distribute 474 sets of eco-friendly box gardens to local residents from the 8th to the 12th of this month.
The eco-friendly box garden distribution project is popular among residents each distribution period because it allows growing seedlings by utilizing spare space at home with a small personal cost.
By paying only 8,500 KRW, which is 20% of the regular price per box garden set, residents receive a cultivation container (66×55×33cm), 50 liters of potting soil, 8 lettuce seedlings, and a cultivation manual all at once, enabling them to grow vegetables without much difficulty.
Especially, this time the box garden container has wheels for easy transport and uses a bottom watering method, allowing vegetable cultivation without hassle even in a busy daily life. Bottom watering is a method where water absorbed through the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot rises upward to water the crops.
Any local resident can apply for distribution. Up to 2 sets per household can be applied for through the Jungnang-gu Office website during the application period. Winners will be announced on the afternoon of the 19th of this month.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "To respond to residents' interest in urban agriculture along with the box gardens, Jungnang Happy Farm is operating in areas such as Sinnae-dong and Mangu-dong to provide urban farming experiences," and added, "We will continue to do our best to prepare various projects so that many residents can experience urban agriculture and have time for healing and rest."
The district distributed 2,385 box garden sets in the first half of the year. After completing the recruitment for the second half, a total of 3,000 box garden sets will have been distributed.
