Minister Park said at the afternoon briefing on current issues at the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee plenary session, “The US also understands that Korea has close economic ties with China.”

He added, “Chip 4, the semiconductor supply chain dialogue proposed by the US to Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, is a cooperation focused on industrial promotion and is not aimed at excluding China. We are conducting a comprehensive review from the perspective of national interest,” reaffirming the existing position.

Regarding the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), launched under US leadership last May, Minister Park explained, “We are currently discussing the agenda to be negotiated among participating countries.”

He continued, “We will also make diplomatic efforts to strengthen economic cooperation by closely communicating with countries not participating in this framework.”

In his opening remarks, Minister Park emphasized, “North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats are becoming increasingly advanced,” and stressed, “A bipartisan and firm response is necessary to protect the lives and safety of the people.”

He added, “As the boundary between security and economy is breaking down, a new era of economic security has arrived,” and said, “We must respond to challenges such as strategic competition between the US and China with a new approach.”
