[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The largest metaverse art festival in Korea, commemorating the 77th anniversary of Liberation Day, will be held this year.
The Metaverse Corporate Cooperation Center (ICC) of the LINC3.0 Project Group at Mokwon University announced on the 1st that the "2nd Future Art Festival with Metaverse: Youth Art Independence Declaration (hereinafter Metaverse Art Festival)" will be held on the metaverse platform ZEB on the 15th.
The Metaverse Art Festival is hosted by the cooperative Korean Youth Artists, with participation from 815 young artists. The cooperative Korean Youth Artists was launched last year to support the activities of young artists inside and outside universities, focusing on students majoring in music, fine arts, fashion design, webtoons, animation, and architecture.
The Metaverse Art Festival was planned with the support of Mokwon University LINC3.0 Project Group Metaverse ICC and technical sponsorship from Dimong Co., Ltd.
On ZEB, users can communicate non-face-to-face in the virtual world using avatars (animated characters).
Users can visit the "Dimong World: Liberation and Independence" space built by Dimong and special exhibition halls containing messages of independence.
Dimong World is set in the historical context of 1945, the year Korea regained sovereignty from Japanese colonial rule, and consists of five spaces for music and theater performances, and exhibitions of fashion, fine arts, webtoons, and animation.
In the special exhibition hall, performances begin with the Provisional Government's patriotic anthem, and feature Arirang, the national anthem, recitations of the poem "Foreword" by resistance poet Yun Dong-ju, and art works themed on Korea.
Users can move through each space with their avatars and experience Korean painting and Western painting works by young artists, as well as webtoon and animation works. In the performance hall, viewers can watch videos of performances by young artists including solo, ensemble, choir, and orchestra.
The Metaverse Art Festival can be accessed and viewed on ZEB from 6 p.m. on the 15th.
Prior to the Metaverse Art Festival on that day, the cooperative Korean Youth Artists built the nation's first metaverse (Gather Town) exhibition and performance hall integrating music, fine arts, and webtoons in March, and held the "Future Art Festival with Metaverse."
The exhibition and performance hall implemented in the metaverse at that time included a music hall, art exhibition hall, webtoon exhibition hall, Mokwon University counseling booth for music, fine arts, and webtoons, a large auditorium, and a game zone, where visitors enjoyed real-time performances and exhibitions within the metaverse.
Kim Ji-min, director of the cooperative Korean Youth Artists, said, "We organized the cooperative last year with my students to solve the concerns of young artists whose artistic activities were blocked by the COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "We hope the Metaverse Art Festival will serve as a new opportunity for young artists and audiences, especially for the younger generation who are accustomed to meeting online."
Kwon Hyuk-dae, president of Mokwon University, said, "The Metaverse Art Festival, held on Liberation Day with 815 young artists coming together in the metaverse with love for the country, is very meaningful," and expressed deep gratitude to Professor Kim Ji-min of Mokwon University, the students, and all members of Korean Youth Artists for creating a new concept of fusion art platform.
