[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] As COVID-19 shows signs of resurgence, over 80,000 new confirmed cases were reported nationwide by 9 PM on the 28th.


According to Seoul and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on this day, 83,140 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is 2,394 fewer than the same time the previous day (85,534). Since the count continues until midnight, the number of new confirmed cases announced on the 29th is expected to increase.


As of 9 PM on this day, new confirmed cases were 43,148 (51.9%) in the metropolitan area and 39,992 (48.1%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 23,470, Seoul 17,517, Gyeongnam 4,447, Incheon 4,347, Gyeongbuk 3,796, Chungnam 3,714, Daegu 3,101, Jeonbuk 2,921, Gangwon 2,775, Busan 2,765, Chungbuk 2,577, Daejeon 2,557, Gwangju 2,381, Jeonnam 2,366, Ulsan 2,161, Jeju 1,613, and Sejong 632.


The daily new confirmed cases over the past week from the 21st to this day were 68,597 → 68,538 → 65,374 → 35,866 → 99,272 → 100,285 → 88,384, averaging about 75,188 cases per day.
