[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it has formed the '28 GHz Band 5G Public-Private Working Group' and held a kickoff meeting on the afternoon of the 28th.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the three mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, device and equipment manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), and the Korea Communications Agency (KCA).
Participants discussed the composition and operation plans of the working group as well as the domestic and international progress of 28 GHz band 5G. The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to establish the direction for promoting 28 GHz band 5G through the working group discussions and consultations with private experts.
The working group was formed following a proposal from the three telecom companies at a meeting between Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the CEOs of the three telecom companies held on the 11th of last month, suggesting the establishment of a forum where public and private sectors can discuss ways to revitalize 28 GHz band 5G together.
