[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Junhyung] Korea Midland Power Co. is building a 16.7MW wind power plant in Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
On the 27th, Midland Power announced that it had started construction of a 16.7MW onshore wind power plant in Hoji Village, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The Hoji Village wind power plant is a project jointly invested by Midland Power, the French global company Total Eren, and the domestic developer One ENS. Previously, Midland Power obtained the power generation business permit in August 2017 and developed related technologies over five years.
The construction period for the Hoji Village wind power plant is expected to be about 18 months. Midland Power expects to begin commercial operation from the first quarter of 2024. After commencing commercial operation, the power plant plans to produce 43,484 MWh of electricity annually for 20 years. This amount of electricity can supply approximately 35,000 people each year.
Through this project, Midland Power will be able to procure 52,180 RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates) annually for 20 years. Midland Power, Total Eren, and One ENS also plan to jointly promote the second phase of the Hoji Village wind power plant project. After investor consultations, Midland Power will also implement its own operation and maintenance (O&M).
Midland Power aims to increase the share of renewable energy power generation to 30% by 2030. Kim Hobin, CEO of Midland Power, said, "Using the Hoji Village wind power plant as a stepping stone, we will strengthen our cooperative relationship with the global company Total Eren in domestic and overseas projects," adding, "We will actively promote the development of 100 wind power specialists and a 10GW wind power development project."
