Rich Attractions and Entertainment to Be Presented
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, has officially started preparations to hold a festival in October.
The city announced on the 27th that on the 26th, it held the appointment ceremony and general meeting of the organizing committees for the '71st Gaecheon Arts Festival' and the '2022 Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival' respectively at the citizen hall on the 2nd floor of City Hall, marking the beginning of full-scale preparations for the October festivals.
The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival is scheduled to be held from October 10 to October 31 (22 days), the Gaecheon Arts Festival from October 27 to November 3 (8 days), and the Drama Festival from October 21 to November 3 (14 days), with the festival periods changed and preparations underway to hold the events around Jinju Fortress and the Namgang River area.
About 60 organizing committee members attended the appointment ceremony, including Mayor Cho Gyu-il, Ju Gang-hong, President of the Jinju Branch of the Korean Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations, Seo Young-su, Chairman of the Jinju Cultural Arts Foundation, City Council members Park Mi-kyung and Jeong Yong-hak, heads of local cultural and artistic organizations, and related agencies.
Mayor Cho said, "Due to COVID-19, the October festivals in Jinju could not be fully held for the past two years, leaving many regrets for citizens and tourists. This year, we aim to make the festival a new beginning that befits Jinju’s reputation and status as a city of culture and arts, and to respond to citizens' expectations by making a fresh leap forward. I ask everyone to unite their efforts, using their long experience and wisdom, so that the October festivals can be held wisely and exemplary."
At the general meeting, 42 organizing committee members were appointed for the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival and 32 for the Gaecheon Arts Festival.
A city official stated, "With changes in the festival periods and expansion of the festival areas, we will prepare new planning and production, and organize innovative and diverse experience and exhibition programs to meet the expectations of citizens and visitors who have been waiting for the festival, ensuring a safe and high-quality event."
