[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] LG Uplus announced on the 27th that it has been solely selected as the contractor for the eco-friendly power supply system construction project for the Korea Railroad Corporation's railway optical communication network.
The railway optical communication network is a private communication network connecting stations nationwide to operate safe railway services.
This project involves replacing outdated rectifiers and batteries in the communication rooms of 25 stations nationwide with high-efficiency eco-friendly products, and introducing a redundant Energy Management System (EMS) to monitor energy usage in real time. Korea Railroad Corporation explained that this project is being carried out to strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.
LG Uplus participated in this project as a consortium with information and communication specialized companies such as Anycom Information & Communication, Wireble, Enkia, and small and medium manufacturers KRnet (rectifiers) and Korea BTS (batteries). The LG Uplus consortium plans to supply high-efficiency rectifiers with low energy loss and environmentally friendly lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that do not contain harmful heavy metals.
Korea Railroad Corporation expects to reduce annual electricity consumption by 464.2 MWh and carbon emissions by 2,466 tons. This is equivalent to the effect of planting 19,733 pine trees to absorb carbon dioxide.
Im Bang-hyun, Executive Director of Western Corporate Sales at LG Uplus, said, “We are proud that LG Uplus, which understands the value of ESG management and provides customers with the best options, has been selected as the contractor for the Korea Railroad Corporation's optical communication power system construction project,” and added, “The LG Uplus consortium will contribute to operating safe railway services.”
