[Seoul District News] Ryu Gyeong-gi, Seoul National University Political Science Graduate and Former Seoul Administrative Deputy Mayor, Now Jungnang-gu Mayor, Hosts 'Two O'Clock Date' for Parents' Concerns Including Childcare During Vacations, Education Methods, and Reading Tips; Monthly Sessions with Song Requests for Parents of 48 Local Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is operating ‘Date at Two O’clock,’ where the mayor transforms into a DJ to listen to stories and song requests from local parents.
‘Date at Two O’clock’ is a parent communication program that adopts the concept of a radio show, moving away from the traditional rigid meeting format to allow free communication in a relaxed atmosphere.
The district expects that spending time sharing difficulties in child education with parents will help in preparing practical policies for local students.
The venue is the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center. For one hour, the mayor listens to parents’ stories about concerns regarding child education, exchanges opinions, and helps resolve their worries. Between counseling sessions, parents’ requested songs are also enjoyed.
The first date of the year was held on the 25th at the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center’s book cafe. Twelve people attended, including representatives from the elementary, middle, and high school parent association chairpersons’ federation.
Parents attending that day asked various questions about child-rearing, education methods, and stress relief, such as “How should we teach economic education to our MZ generation children?” and “What are ways for children to spend their vacations meaningfully?”
Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi sincerely responded based on his own experiences, sharing concerns about children’s education and interests.
The district plans to conduct a demand survey and operate the program monthly at one school each for 48 elementary, middle, and high schools in the area until the end of the year.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “Listening to and communicating with parents is important for students and the development of local education,” adding, “We will actively invest in improving school environments and academic achievement, including doubling the education budget, to raise the satisfaction of students and parents with education.”
