[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education is conducting the 'National Safety Inspection for This Year' targeting dormitories with a total floor area of over 5,000㎡ for 12 days from the 18th to the 29th.

This inspection is a 'public-private joint inspection' that includes private experts in architecture, facilities, and electrical fields as well as parents of the schools subject to inspection in the inspection team. It conducts a comprehensive safety check of dormitory facilities and identifies defects such as repairs and reinforcements.

The inspection focuses on electrical, gas, and fire safety areas, checking the operation status of fire safety facilities such as emergency lights, fire doors, and fire shutters, as well as reviewing the summer safety inspection checklist conducted by the schools themselves, fire safety plans, various safety inspection result reports, and whether student fire safety education and training have been implemented.

Minor issues found during the safety inspection will be corrected immediately, and if serious defects or risk factors are discovered, urgent repairs, reinforcements, and usage restrictions will be applied. If detailed inspection and safety assurance are necessary, a precise safety inspection will be conducted by a specialized institution.

The Office of Education conducted a national safety inspection targeting eight special schools from August to September last year, pointing out issues such as protruding rebar on retaining walls, partial corrosion of anchors, exterior wall leaks, and peeling of waterproof layers, and took measures for repairs and reinforcements.

Kim Dongsik, Director of Education Safety Division, said, "We will strengthen safety inspections of dormitories to prevent fire causes in advance and promptly address any problems found through the inspections."
