[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 29th (local time), Defense Minister Lee Jong-seop will hold talks with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in Washington D.C., USA.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, Minister Lee and Secretary Austin will share assessments of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula during this meeting and discuss issues related to the ROK-U.S. alliance, including enhancing extended deterrence capabilities as a follow-up to the agreements made at the ROK-U.S. summit held last May.

This bilateral meeting between Minister Lee and Secretary Austin is their second since the meeting held during the Asia Security Conference in Singapore on the 11th of last month.

During this visit to the U.S., Minister Lee plans to attend the completion ceremony of the Korean War Fallen Soldiers Memorial Wall in Washington, lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery, and visit the Armed Forces Retirement Home to express gratitude for the sacrifices and dedication of war veterans.

He also plans to attend a luncheon with former commanders of the United States Forces Korea and hold meetings with think tank officials.

The Ministry of National Defense expects to introduce Korea's efforts to strengthen the ROK-U.S. alliance and broaden consensus with the U.S. political and public spheres regarding the Korean government’s policies.
