[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Literature Translation Institute of Korea will hold the "2022 Diaspora Korean Literature and Human Geography" conference on the 29th at the 4th-floor auditorium of the Literature Translation Institute of Korea. This academic conference highlights diaspora Korean literature worldwide and is jointly hosted by the Institute and the International Association of Korean Literature.
In the morning general session of the conference, presentations on "Identity and Future of Diaspora Korean Literature" (Lee Hyung-kwon) and "The Role of Diaspora Korean Literary Awards and Literary Magazines" (Lee Seung-ha) will be given. The regional session will review diaspora literature by region, including the Americas, China, Central Asia, Europe, and Japan, while the author and work session will cover critical figures in diaspora literature such as Jo Myung-hee, Ko Jung-hee, and Shim Yeon-su.
Those wishing to attend can apply via email. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the deadline is the 28th.
The conference also commemorates the launch of the "Diaspora Webzine: Neomeo," which the Institute will inaugurate this November. The Institute has planned this webzine as a new literary platform encompassing Korean diaspora literature and Korean-language literature scattered worldwide. The editorial planning committee includes diaspora literature experts from various regions such as Lee Hyung-kwon (Chairman, Chungnam National University), Hong Yong-hee (Kyung Hee Cyber University), Kim Hwan-gi (Dongguk University), Yoon Ui-seop (Daejeon University), Ko Myung-chul (Kwangwoon University), and Jung Eun-kyung (Chung-Ang University).
"Diaspora Webzine: Neomeo" will not only introduce the canon of diaspora Korean literature scattered across the Americas, Europe, Russia and Central Asia, China, and Japan but will also include literary works by diverse contemporary Korean creators (overseas Koreans, Joseonjok, Koryo-saram, North Korean defectors, overseas adoptees, migrant workers, multicultural family members) and foreigners writing in Korean.
