[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Asiana Airlines announced on the 25th that it has resumed operations on three routes to China, T?rkiye (Turkey), and Spain. This comes 2 years and 4 months after suspending regular flights in March 2020.
Asiana Airlines will operate ▲Incheon~Beijing route once a week ▲Incheon~Istanbul route twice a week ▲Incheon~Barcelona route twice a week.
The Incheon~Beijing route, a key route for Korea-China exchanges, was abruptly approved for resumption by both countries on the 20th. Asiana Airlines immediately resumed flights from the 23rd to enhance customer convenience. To commemorate the resumption of the Beijing route, Asiana Airlines is offering various benefits until October 23, including special discounted tickets, additional checked baggage, and exclusive check-in counters.
The first flights to Istanbul and Barcelona, which resumed on the same day, recorded load factors of 95% and 92%, respectively. The reservation rate for these routes in August is also approaching 80%, indicating a strong summer vacation demand.
Asiana Airlines, together with Incheon International Airport Corporation, held the "Beautiful Cities Reunited" event at Terminal 1 of Incheon International Airport to celebrate the resumption of the three routes. The event was attended by Du Seong-guk, Head of Passenger Division at Asiana Airlines, and Kim Beom-ho, Head of Future Business Division at Incheon Airport Corporation, who congratulated the successful resumption of the Beijing, Istanbul, and Barcelona routes.
Asiana Airlines is holding a "Surprise Upgrade" event by selecting two economy class passengers on the first resumed flights to Istanbul and Barcelona to be upgraded to business class. Additionally, all passengers on the three routes received commemorative gifts such as Saekdong grip-toks, foldable umbrellas, Asiana Care Plus kits (sanitary supplies), and stationery.
An Asiana Airlines official said, "We feel closer to normalizing international passenger flights as we resume the Beijing, Istanbul, and Barcelona routes that had been suspended for 2 years and 4 months," adding, "We will continue to closely monitor air travel demand and increase routes and frequencies not only to Europe but also to various regions."
Meanwhile, to provide more convenient travel to Europe, Asiana Airlines plans to increase the Incheon~Paris route to six times a week starting the 30th, the Incheon~Frankfurt route to seven times a week from August 1, and the Incheon~Rome route to three times a week from August 14.
