[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province announced the final judging results of the '2022 Hanwoo and Dairy Cattle Competition' on the 25th.
The evaluation was conducted from May onwards not by a 'gathered judging at the competition venue' but by judges visiting each farm for 'on-site farm judging.'
In this competition, 74 Hanwoo cattle (from 55 farms in 16 cities/counties) competed in 5 categories (female calves, cows that have not given birth, cows that have given birth 1, 2, and 3 times), and 92 dairy cattle (from 47 farms in 13 cities/counties) competed in 7 categories (2 categories each for heifers and cows that have not given birth, and 3 categories for cows that have given birth 1, 2, and 3 times), undergoing two rounds of on-site judging.
As a result of the evaluation, in the 'Hanwoo category,' a total of 20 farms were selected: 5 grand prizes, 5 excellence awards, and 10 encouragement awards. In the 'dairy cattle category,' a total of 21 farms were selected: 7 grand prizes, 7 excellence awards, and 7 encouragement awards.
The 'Grand Prize' in the Hanwoo category was awarded to a breeding cow that had given birth two or more times, submitted by the farm of Yang Jae-seon in Pyeongtaek City, evaluated as having excellent growth and a gentle temperament, demonstrating overall outstanding qualities.
The 'Grand Champion (Grand Prize)' in the dairy cattle category was awarded to a cow that had given birth three or more times, submitted by the farm of Park Yoon-jae in Yeoncheon County, which received high scores for its excellent physique, balanced beauty, and overall health.
After awarding the winning cattle, the province plans to hold an expert review meeting on the competition process and criteria for selecting outstanding cattle to discuss the achievements and direction of livestock improvement in the province.
Kim Young-soo, Director of Livestock Policy, said, "We will continue to pay attention at the provincial level to maximize the development of livestock in Gyeonggi and the improvement achievements of Hanwoo and dairy cattle, and to achieve good results in national competitions."
