Trio Unio Wins 2nd Place at Schubert International Chamber Music Competition

Trio Unio won 2nd place in the piano trio category at the 11th Franz Schubert and Contemporary Music International Chamber Music Competition held in Graz, Austria on the 23rd (local time). The Franz Schubert and Contemporary Music International Chamber Music Competition is organized every three years by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz since 1989. The competition evaluates skills through performances of Schubert's chamber music and works by contemporary composers.

Trio Unio is a piano trio consisting of violinist Kim Eunji, cellist Nam Ayeon, and pianist Choi Youngsun. They built a deep friendship while attending Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and Seoul National University together. Although they are currently studying in different countries, they formed the team last year with the intention of performing as one. In the final round, they performed Lowell Liebermann's Piano Trio Op.77 No.2 and Schubert's Piano Trio in B-flat major D.898.

Kim Eunji completed her master's degree at Indiana University and is currently pursuing a doctoral program at Seoul National University. Nam Ayeon graduated with a master's degree from the Cologne University of Music in Germany and served as a member of the G?rzenich Orchestra Academy in Cologne. She is currently studying in the highest artist diploma program at the Cologne University of Music. Choi Youngsun completed her master's degree at Indiana University and entered the doctoral program at the same university. She gained international recognition by winning first place at the International Paderewski Piano Competition in the United States last April.
