The Ultimate Summer Festival, Jangheung Water Festival Returns After 3 Years

[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Yong-jun, Travel Specialist] The Jangheung Water Festival, which could not be held due to COVID-19, is resuming after three years.

The 'Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival,' established as Korea's representative summer festival, will be held from the 30th of this month to the 7th of next month at the Tamjin River Waterfront Park and the Hinoki Forest Woodland area.

To soothe the regret of not being able to celebrate with tourists for two years due to COVID-19, the festival will feature a theme performance depicting the beginning of the water festival, symbolized by water as the starting and welcoming element.

The festival truly begins and ends with water. On the opening day, the 30th, a street parade called the Water Battle of the Spray, where guerrilla units engage in water fights, will take place in downtown Jangheung. Refreshing streams of water and water bombs will be showered everywhere. Along the Tamjin River, the greatest water fight on land will be held daily at 2 and 3 p.m. during the festival, featuring battles against K-Zombies.

Additionally, Water Boom water balloons and water bomb fights promise a unique kind of fun. A water challenge will be operated on the water upstream of Yeyang Bridge.

A water park on the water will be set up using large air bounces, where participants will run across the water and challenge obstacles.

At 3 p.m. every day, barehanded fish catching will take place. Up to 2,000 people can enter simultaneously to chase and catch fast-swimming fish. Whether you catch one or not, it’s a refreshing water play. There are also various tourist participation events such as pedal boat racing, water challenges, and underwater futsal tournaments.

At night, an EDM party blending water and music and a 70s-80s nostalgic live concert will be held. The EDM party, conducted as a Water Rock (樂) Pool Party, will be enhanced with eco-friendly bubbles to elevate the atmosphere.
