Galaxy Z Flip4 and Other Foldable Phones Release Date Confirmed
Weight and Thickness Further Reduced... Various Speculations and Forecasts
Samsung to Reveal All at 'Galaxy Unpacked 2022'
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] "Unfold Your World"
Samsung Electronics has confirmed the unpacking (launch) date for the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4 in the second half of this year. It will be held on August 10th at 10 PM Korea Standard Time.
In the video invitation released by Samsung Electronics, the side and back views of the Galaxy Z Flip4 are shown along with the phrase "Unfold Your World." Samsung stated, "We will unveil the latest Galaxy devices and platforms that will transform everyday life for the better, providing richer and new experiences."
At the event, Samsung is expected to showcase not only the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 but also new wearable products such as the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Buds2 Pro.
According to overseas IT media and leak sources, the foldable new products have improved the hinge part that allows folding and unfolding, reducing weight and thickness.
Additionally, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is reported to have a larger external screen and some improvements in battery life, which had been pointed out as a drawback. It is expected to be released in four colors: Gold, Gray, Blue, and Violet.
Both products will be equipped with the 'Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1' application processor (AP) announced last May. Regarding each device, the Fold4 is expected to feature a 7.6-inch internal display and a 6.2-inch AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) external display.
Regarding the external screen aspect ratio, unlike the Fold3's 24.5:9, the Fold4 will change to 23:9. The internal screen aspect ratio, which was 5:4 in previous models, will change to 6:5 in the Fold4. The Fold4's rear will likely have three cameras: a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera.
The Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 are also expected to support the function of using two phone numbers on one device for the first time in Korea. Until now, this technology has not been activated in Korea because the three major telecom companies did not launch 'eSIM.'
However, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced the 'Smartphone eSIM Introduction Plan' in December last year and is working on establishing institutional and technical foundations for the commercialization of eSIM. Once eSIM is commercialized, there will be no need to purchase a physical SIM card, which is expected to reduce additional costs incurred when subscribing to telecom services.
However, Samsung Electronics has stated that it cannot officially confirm the detailed new product forecasts coming from leak sources, experts, and the industry. This unpack event, which has various speculations and forecasts, will be broadcast live online and can be viewed on the Samsung Newsroom and Samsung Electronics website.
