[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Residents' Autonomy Committee of Sangmu 2-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Jeong Hee-man) successfully concluded the '2022 Visiting Youth Autonomy School and School General Assembly' held on the 18th for all students of Gwangju Hyogwang Middle School, with active participation and positive response from the students.
According to Sangmu 2-dong, Seo-gu on the 19th, this school general assembly was organized to provide education on residents' autonomy to youth, the future leaders, and to offer them opportunities to grow as members of their community and village, aiming to realize a village-centered autonomous city.
All students of Hyogwang Middle School discovered over 200 village agenda items for the assembly, from which five agenda items were selected: fences to protect student safety, securing a school route free from illegal parking, "Where should we go?", "Hot, cold, cramped?please change the bus stop," and others.
As a result of the vote, the agenda for improving the environment of the bus stop near the school received 140 votes and ranked first, followed by the agenda for creating a youth caf? space, which received 98 votes and ranked second. These agendas will be submitted to the 'Ssangssang Ilchon Village General Assembly' to be held on the 15th of next month.
During this general assembly, in cooperation with the Residents' Autonomy Committee and Hyogwang Middle School, 17 experience booths such as Toktok Blocks, grass dolls, and watercolor tattoo making were operated, along with colorful pre-event performances by a Nanta club composed of parents, student bands, and dance clubs.
A student who participated in the school general assembly said, "In the morning, we engaged in various experience booths, and in the afternoon, we listened to proposals for village agendas, thought about which agenda is most necessary for us, and voted. It was a meaningful activity."
