Enforcement Decree Amendment of the Performance Act to Take Effect from the 19th
From now on, performance venue operators must report to the head of the local government if a death or an injury requiring more than two months of recovery occurs on stage. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that the revised enforcement decree of the "Performance Act" containing this provision will be implemented starting from the 19th. This measure was taken to strengthen the safety awareness of performance venue operators and others following the incident involving the late Park Song-hee, who lost her life after falling during stage work.
The head of the local government who receives a report of a serious accident may request the submission of materials necessary for investigation. A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "We revised the enforcement decree to establish standards for serious accidents that require mandatory reporting and other necessary matters for the enforcement of the law," adding, "With the possibility of administrative support from local governments, we expect to smoothly handle accidents and prevent similar incidents from recurring."
Meanwhile, the revision also includes specifying the standard for guiding evacuation outside of performance venues as audiences of 1,000 or more, and defining the requirements for designating dedicated performance safety management institutions as public institutions, non-profit corporations, or government-funded research institutes.
